Persian rugs

The Persian rug is one of the most effective and pivotal components that display the central theme of the Persian art and culture. Crafting of artistic Carpets had always been one of the salient manifestations for the Persian artistes. Delving deep into the issue and spanning back to the Bronze age a several thousands of years back it can be easily understood that carpets that were crafted during those period used to provide the aesthetic and magnificent flavor of royalty.

History in brief

Researches have revealed the fact that the earliest patterns and the ideas of designing the Persian carpets had come from the Safavid dynasty during the 16th century, although the painted depictions spans back to much longer historical period. Evidences have proved that there were great varieties of the Persian carpets of that classical era. Staring form the scrolling vine networks to the overlapping geometrical designs and palmettes and medallions and arabesque and aesthetic cloud bands, the Persian rugs of the 16th and 17th centuries were among the most demanding decorative components. A few pieces of worn out classical Persian rugs are still found in the carpet museum of Tehran.

Unique features of the Persian Rugs

The Persian rugs of the present times have changed a lot. Yet but the inspirational flavor of the classical royalty can still be found in the Persian rugs with some aesthetic blend of modern artistic concept. This is one of the salient features of the glorious Persian rugs while some of the other worth mentioning features still do exist. * The art in case of the Persian rugs are greatly based on the culture of the Shia Islam and hence a galore of beauty synchronized with classical style are the true criterion of the beautiful art. * Wools and cottons are the most common materials used in case of the Persian rugs. During the classical periods of 16th and 17th centuries, Persian rugs also used to be famous for the silk carpet, although they wee less durable as compared to the woolen and cotton rugs. * The Persian rugs are generally crafted with the high degree of dexterity and hence turn out to be much more hardy and durable. * Even during the era of mechanization, the traditionally hand woven Persian rugs are famous all over the world even today. The hand woven rugs are usually very expensive as compared to the mechanically woven rugs. * The traditionally made Persian rugs are tied with single looping knot commonly called Persian knot. This in turn gives the rug some magnificent outlook slight lesser block like images. * The modern dealers of the fabulous Persian rugs have categorized the rugs according to the types of fabric used, designs and style of weaving the rugs. Also each of the categories has been named the places associated to each design. A few examples are Afshar, Ahar, Afghan Carpet, Saraband, Ghayen, Ferdos, Jozan, Kashmar, Yazd, Mahan, Hariz, Heriz, Qom, Tehran, Zenjan Zabol and so on.
