A two generation family ran business that was started by two brother ins 1926. Basil Couri and George Couri who named the company Couri Brothers. It began by importing fine handmade area rugs from Persia. The quality of the carpet was so important to these brothers that they made the long trip to Persia which took 32 days just to ensure they had the finest quality rugs to send home. Some of their first shipments came from Smyma and were Sparta Rugs which then had their Couristan label attached to them. The name Couristan was derived from the company name Couri and the small region where the weaving villages were located called stan. It wasn't long after when the company began to expand it's market and by 1927 they were importing rugs from India for resale. In the 1930s Couristan began to import hooked handmade Chinese rugs and Japanese braided rugs. During the 1950s Couristan began importing quality broadloom rugs as well as a variety of area rugs. Each year their lines continued to grow and expand. Today Couristan is still going strong providing over 25 collections of handmade area rugs from all around the world, as well as 60 collections of broadloom rugs. Their rugs are imported from Napal, Pakistan, and China, as well as many other areas. They still believe that there is no finer rug nor no rug of higher quality than a hand made rug. They carry a variety of styles including traditional, trendy, elegant, casual, and antique looking rugs. They also carry a variety of Oriental rugs from a many different parts of the Orient. You'll have so many choices it may be hard to decide. You can choose from florals, Oriental, or Persian designs. You can choose from neutral to bold colors and different textures. You can also choose different loop styles such as the Wilton loop pile, fusion bonded loop pile or the Cut pile. There is a style and cut for every home. You can reflect the personality of your room with no trouble. Couristan recognizes that your home decor says a lot about you and that your area rug can make or break the look of your room. So their goal is to provide you with plenty of choices. In fact you'll have a hard time finding another company that has so many options. Remember of all those lines they carry there are hundreds of choices in each line. Couristan's Kashimar rug was introduced in 1961 and today it still remains their most popular rug. We all know that Oriental and Persian rugs are very expensive to buy but Couristan was able to design a power loom that was able to reproduce these styles and designs and Couristan was able to offer this style of rugs for a lot less than the handmade variety.
