How to Choose Bathroom Theme Accessories
If you feel like countless other folks who look at their bathroom as little more than a shining blaze of fixtures and tile, try re considering how your bathroom can be. It is not that challenging, because all you need is your imagination to work out precisely the look and feel that you would prefer. Here are some design tips on bathroom theme accessories that will give your bathroom that all important warm feeling in no time at all.
Bathrooms, as with every other room in a house, should be themed because it offers the space a mood and brings your personality to your little corner of the world. It is where you can state, by choice, what is most important to you. There are hundreds of design subjects to pick from, including country, dolls, sea life or even villas on the Mediterranean. The choice is yours, so select the theme that you desire. It is a good idea to choose a theme that matches, or at least correlates with other design styles in your home. That way, it will not be overly busy, or out of tune with other areas of the house.
If your bathroom is a little on the small side, you are not out of line with many other homeowners since bathrooms in older houses were quite literally carved out of small unused closets. Even if you are one of the many unfortunate folks that have inherited a tiny bathroom, you can nonetheless decorate for color. Bear in mind though, that with small bathrooms, less is often more. Your color schema can be paint or paper, but if the space is modest, a neutral paint or wallpaper color can be applied on either one wall, or as an accent on a chair rail. You can choose to paint a conventional white, and accent with color utilizing various decorating accessories such as framed prints, shells, baskets, throw rugs, and window treatments to name but a few.
If you choose to put plants in your bathroom, then the perfect wallpaper or paint color to set them off is a warm rust shade. You will however want to choose your plants wisely since some will not suffer the warm steamy atmosphere or the different chemicals contained in the likes of hairspray, deodorants and fragrances used in bathrooms. The residues from these products will eventually stick to the leaves and the plants will end up on the compost heap. Assuming that you have a large enough bathroom, you could hang up plants from the ceiling. Alternatively, on the back of the lavatory is another good location. If your tub is the type with a wide rim, try setting smaller plants around the outside and set them off with ornamental baskets and soaps.
Another important aspect when decorating your bathroom are the towels and rugs. Deep plush or hand woven rugs contribute a touch of elegance. However, be careful when placing rugs on slippery linoleum or tile since a serious fall can be the result. Look for rugs that have a lined backing of rubber to prevent falls. You can coordinate the rugs with the bathroom mat in alternate or matching colors too. Utilizing different textures that match your theme will give the bathroom a little additional feeling of warmth. Do not think you are limited on textures since when they are mixed with a neutral background, they make a bathroom homely and inviting to be in.
You can jazz up your bathroom with decorative towel racks and colorful towels as well. Towel racks are available in all manner of finishes including wood, bronze, silver and gold. If you want to match existing baskets and picture frames, you can paint or stain wooden racks in whatever color or shade you desire.
Modern bathroom lighting is just as important as the decoration and accessories. In fact, light can make or break the mood of any room. Since water and electricity do not mix very well, your initial consideration must be safety. If you have youngsters in the home, I would advise that all lighting should be fixed and unreachable to small wet hands. That aside however, you can leave night lights on when the bathroom is not being used and if counter top space allows, a small lamp. You can then fit lamp shades that match your overall theme.
In conclusion, if you are stuck for ideas, read through some home decorating books or magazines for inspiration to get your creative juices flowing. You may well chance upon wonderful themes that you did not even know existed. It is your little corner of the world, so be as unique as you want when adorning your home bathroom
