Karastan Rugs - The Best Of Weaves

by Kellie A Roberts

Karastan Rugs have earned the highest rank among the best machine-made rugs ever made! Dating back to the 19th century, hand-made rugs were of great value; the intricate designs and the quality of rugs and carpets were unmatched. When machinery was used to manufacture the rugs, there was a huge difference in quality, texture and colour. However, when Karastan rugs came into business, they proved them all wrong.

Karastan Rugs was established in 1928, with their newest technology and brilliant innovations, they brought about a whole new meaning to machine manufactured rugs. Machine made rugs would not measure up against the quality and sophistication of the hand woven ones, but Karstan Rugs changed that completely.

The Karastan Rugs brought about a phenomenal change in America's weaving industry, it was almost impossible to differentiate a Karastan manufactured rug from a handmade Persian imported rug. They subjected their rugs publically to durability tests and found to be of unsurpassed quality. Karastan rugs was displayed not in a showcase, but was laid on the ground during the public Trade fair, after ruthlessly being walked on by at least a million people, half of this rug was washed to show that it retained back its sheen even after such harsh conditions. Thus, Karastan earned its title "The Wonder Rug of America".

Karastan rugs guarantee quality and exceptionality for their rugs and carpets. By manufacturing their own rugs they cut unnecessary costs which are usually added to the selling price. Their method includes various processes to obtain a first class finished product.

New Zealand is famed for its best pastures and producing the most excellent quality of white wool in the whole world. Karastan Rugs settle for nothing but the best for their raw material and get their basic wool from them. That wool is further subject to rigorous procedures further purifying and refining it to make it smooth, this wool does not tolerate dust mites, hence prove a valuable investment for asthma and allergy sufferers. An arty rug is created by the talented artists in the power loom using a vibrant mix of colours and designs.

The infamous 'Tea wash', as it is known, is a process of applying a permanent dull dye to the rug, giving it the antique look, which could never be replicated by any other machinery in those times. The rug is then subject to the 'Lustre wash', which further refines and gives the rug a smooth sheen. Again the rug is washed and smoothened, and finally it goes through a process called the 'Sultan's Slippers', to give it a fluffy look.

Karastan Rugs are indeed a wise choice for anyone who wishes for class and quality from trustworthy manufacturers at such an appropriate price.
