Decorative Large Area Rug

Bringing a room together and protecting the existing wall-to-wall carpeting is easily done with a well-placed with a large area rug. There are many places where you can get area rugs, including department stores, on-line retailers, as well as small shops. There are a few crucial factors like color, pile, and size to keep in mind when looking for area rugs.

There are many locations that sell area rugs of varying sizes. Home improvement stores generally carry a good amount of variety in area rugs, as do many large department stores. Another good place to find large area rugs is online, though you may run into the problem of high shipping costs due to the size and weight of the rugs. You might be able to find road side stands or parking lot tents in your area that sell a wide variety of area rugs. Most of the time the rugs sold at these locations are significantly cheaper than in other locations. The problem many people usually have when buying large rugs is how to get them back home.

Before bringing any large area rugs home, you should measure the room the area rug is going to go. An area rug should cover a large portion of a room, but not necessarily extend to each wall. If the rug is too big then the edges will roll up where they touch the wall, which can become a tripping hazard. A rug that is too big can also interfere with the opening and closing of all of the doors that lead into the room. A rug that is too small will look out of place and detract from the total decor of the room. It can also make the space seem too spacious and disjointed.

The thickness of the area rug is largely determined by the pile, and is something to keep in consideration. A large area rug with too high of a pile can be a possible tripping hazard if the side of the rug is placed in a high foot-traffic area. This can also make it more difficult to close and open doors. Too low of a pile could also make the rug less comfortable for people to walk on. In a family room or play room, a high pile area rug would be a great idea because it is more comfortable to sit and lay on. A low pile area rug would do well in a high traffic area because it will take a lot of abuse.

Some people may have an accent color or theme in the room that they want to match. Area rugs are made in so many vibrant and unique colors and patterns that it should be fairly easy to find one that has the look and feel that you want. Bringing a sample of the color with you is a good idea, as it will help you locate a good color match. Installing an area rug in your home decor means that you can have a neutrally colored carpet run throughout the house without it being stale or boring. If your rooms happen to have individual themes, an area rug can help promote them and be attractive.

Decorating your home isn't as hard as it initially seems. A simple large area rug can transform an entire room from boring to fantastic.
