The Area Rug Guide
Area rugs are decorating staples. If you haven't realized yet that area rugs can transform any room in a snap, it's time to get out of your slumber and start looking around. Almost, if not all homes and offices have area rugs as a decor and floor covering. Why, even my public library's receiving area has an area rug to welcome the booklovers.
With so many options in the market, selecting the right pieces for your home can be mind-boggling. If you could buy all, you would wouldn't you? After all, there are affordable prices too, so shopping for area rugs need not be an expensive venture.
An essential factor in choosing your area rug is the size. It should fit perfectly with the area you have in mind. Too small or too big just doesn't cut it. Measure the space before shopping for your rugs. Many homeowners commit the blunder of buying what they visualize as a right fit only to find later that the rug becomes more of an eyesore instead of a decor because of the misfit.
In deciding an area to cover with an area rug, consider factor like floor vents, electrical outlets, door openings and such. The coast is clear, as they say for putting an area rug to achieve maximum decorating results. Bumps, unevenness and fire are by no means unwelcome.
Area rugs work best for high traffic areas. Strategically place a rug on a spot that is often used. Examples are the door entrance, under the table and chairs, the "sitting on the floor" space, in front of a painting, in front of the sink and under heavy furnishings.
We know that there are area rugs that are way too beautiful to be stepped on, right? Think of the authentic Persian, Native American and Oriental rugs. If I could tiptoe my way on them, I would! Therefore, know the purpose of your rugs. If it's primarily as floor protection say, in the kitchen and porch, use suitable rugs that are durable and lightweight. For decorative intentions like in the living room, then go for a more elegant area rug. You can also use such rugs as a wall decoration. The details and texture will make for a very impressive wall hanging.
Area rugs are not only to cover unsightly stains or cracks on the floors. Let's be optimistic too and see rugs as a highlighter. An area rug can enhance a space, furniture and even the entire room. If you have a beautiful painting, place an area rug under it for a more eye-catching quality. Place a large area rug under the sofa set or dining table set. It will make the group of furniture more coordinated.
Whether you intend to use your rug under furniture, on the wall or in an open area, choose what you like. There are no set rules for selecting rugs. In the end, it comes down to what you like and what will give the feel you want create. When selecting rugs, it is up to personal taste.
With so many selections available, you will surely find the perfect rug to delight you for years to come.
