What is a compact way to store area rugs?

Can you answer mollymyra's question about rugs?:

Aside from rolling and tying them which I do, what is a good way to store area rugs so they don't take up so much space? Thanks!

Depending on how big they are, you could stack them flat, and put them under a bed, or get some of those large space bags that let you vacuum out the air.

Lay them flat, but put them on a tarp and another tarp on top to keep them from fading/water damage/dust etc.

I'm Iranian and we usually roll the carpets and rugs because it is the best way to store but tying them may cause damage to them and also for your question may be covering and hanging on a wall as the shops are doing in Iran might help you and make sure that put it on a wall that's not wet I hope it help you

Assuming they are not priceless oriental or mid eastern rugs which would need to be covered and lain flat somewhere…..Roll them up, wrap tape around them in three places with clear packing tape, then cover the entire roll with shrink or stretch or saran type wrap to help keep them clean and stand them in a corner of the garage, attic, or storage room. Just be sure they stand straight so they don't get a kink in the middle. Never fold a rug, as you may never get the folds flat.
