What rug color would best match a multicolor slate floor?

Can you answer joshuathevictor's question about rugs?:

Our home has a very dramatic entry hallway with multicolored slate tiles on the floor in all kinds of colors, but mainly, blues, oranges, reds and yellows. A staircase lands in the hallway with beige carpeting. I need to put a rug in the entry hall and confused as to what kind of rug would look good against such a floor. I appreciate all advice.

Something with abstract geometric shapes in some of the colors that are in the slate floor. Or one with a kind of checkerboard pattern in random colors that are in the slate.

If you want to accentuate the tile and subdue the rug, you could go with a plain slate grey rug, maybe with some minimalist border or pattern. That would detract attention away from the rug and accentuate the colors in the tile.

It's hard to envision it without a photo, but I would go with something more understated, with a modest color & pattern, so that you don't overlook the beauty of the floor. Like one of these:

It depends on your decorating style. If you like bold colors then consider a geometric patterned rug. Another option is to look for one that is more Moroccan as the colors you mentioned are typical of this style. If you want to tone down the tiles then consider a plain colored rug, choosing your favorite color from the tiles. You can also get a banded rug with a different color for the banding.
